When Will This Reckless Human Interference in Biosphere's Harmony Stop?

Today the whole world is worried about the abrupt changes in climatic conditions. The suggested remedial measures are mostly theoretical or impractical, and hence they are not able to prevent or eradicate these inconsistencies in weather cycles across the globe. According to the scientists, a large section of the glacier from the South Pole is slowly melting away resulting in fall in temperature worldwide. In the northern hemisphere, formation of ice and icebergs has increased, leading to further lowering of temperature. Due to the uncertain variations in temperature difference between the Southern Pole and the Northern Pole, the whole world is experiencing abrupt changes in climate.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, 2013 and 2014 witnessed the most changes in weather conditions. Unexpected variations in temperature, snowfall and rainfall around the globe clearly indicate that not only India but the whole world is witnessing change in climatic conditions and weather. Polar Vortex in America, tornadoes in London, unseasonal rainfall and extreme cold in whole of Asia are the results of these changes.

According to World Climate Conference Declaration, extensive dependence on technology is raising level of carbon dioxide in air, resulting in record drop in temperatures worldwide. According to meteorologists, disturbance in El-Nino and La-Nina in the Pacific Ocean has caused fall in temperature causing icy cold. If the average temperature of the Pacific Ocean near equator remains below 27°C, then instead of El-Nino, La-Nina is caused, thereby lowering temperatures. It recurs actively after an interval of two to four years.

Low formation of El-Nino acts as an alarm regarding changing weather. Since El-Nino is not formed, the occurring La-Nina causes abnormal changes in the weather. It affects the Monsoon and increases incidents of Western disturbances. When this condition arises in winters it causes heavy snowfall in hilly regions and severe cold in the plains. When the condition of La-Nina occurs in summer it causes heavy untimely rainfall.

Western disturbance is the cold wind arising in the western snowy region crossing the Caspian Ocean and reaching our country. Scientists observed that this year La-Nina of the Pacific Ocean created imbalance in the Western disturbance resulting in excess cold. According to Pune Meteorological Department, La-Nina causing severe cold is a known fact.

In 1992, United Nations Framework Convention on Climatic Change was established and then onwards several strategies to counter these climatic changes have been proposed and discussed. But the outcome is confined only to the discussion rooms. Till date no authentic strategy has been implemented effectively.

Change in weather conditions has mainly affected production of food grains and economic prosperity. Climatic irregularity adversely affected the agriculture, resulting in inflation, thus affecting the common masses.

This year, the rise in temperature during summer season is a result of increased CO2 emission levels in air and radiations from nuclear testing, which needs to be controlled. International Organization for Migration has predicted that by 2050, nearly 20 crore people may migrate due to such sudden rise and drops in temperature. Some other organizations believe that by 2050 the figure may reach 70 crore because the world population may then be 9 billion.

Today man is recklessly exploiting natural resources. It is probable that such reckless practice may exhaust them. Hence, it is essential that we work sincerely and diligently towards restoring the environment to its original state by following ethical practices.
